Joan Completes 1,300nm Solo Sail and Qualifies for Route du Rhum

Joan has just this morning, Monday 25th June 2018, completed a solo sail of 1,300 nautical miles from Portimao in Portugal to Galway, Ireland. Joan completed this solo sail on Team Ireland's powerful IMOCA 60. Joan is delighted to be back on home soil to gear up for SeaFest in Galway Port at the weekend. Joan will be representing her sponsors BIM and the Taste the Atlantic brand.

The completion of this solo sail means that if a sponsor is found, Joan can compete in the solo transatlantic race the Route du Rhum. This race would then qualify Joan for the Vendée Globe, the ultimate non-stop solo race in the incredibly powerful IMOCA 60 yacht. The Vendée Globe race takes place every four years and in 2016, there were no female participants. If Joan can make it to the start line in 2020, she would be the first Irish woman ever to race this exciting, round-the-world yacht race.
